Evolve Damn It!

When Americans Take a Stand?

Admittedly, for the past 3 or 4 weeks I haven’t been paying much attention. Between domestic and work issues it becomes laborious to read every news clip available and most news programs are a bit tainted and subjective. What I have had is friends and family delivering tidbits here and there and this forces me to research it. I have to… it’s in my nature. I’m the dog that never catches the car.

So, when I was asked how I felt about the Tea Party I was completely unprepared to answer. I am all for chaos but I'm not convinced this is my brand. Washington Post writer Michael Gerson called the movement childish, I see it as being ill-conceived.

The Tea Party movement has definitely proven one thing... we are never more dangerous than when we band together. While I applaud the effort, the fundamentals are as flawed as the parties they look to dethrone.

I see the intention and heart but what is lacking is the cohesiveness and direction of the other big two, which is not saying a whole lot. We have our carefully elected officials taking time out of their busy day job to campaign... they will dance around, kiss babies and eat apple pie until the moon comes out and once the minions of assumed normalcy are away for bed they thrust themselves into the devilish ire of freely loosening their collective ties and howling at the moon... or scheme new ways to waste money and send young men to war.

Yes, the above actions are mandatory in congress.

New excitement has been the upset victory of Christine O'Donnell who, with a checkered past, is still not capable of the intentional debauchery we see from the chosen monsters occupying space in the White House. Is witch craft really all that bad compared to treason (yes, I realize she was a teenager but it is still funny)? Having said that, she is indeed a buffoon. Her surrogate mother, Sarah Palin, has claimed yet another mediocre victory and her place in the media remains strong.

In a Fox News interview, Palin said, "I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing that right now."

"Good time"... curious choice of words considering the state of the union. I am not to going to spend any more effort discussing these two for the same reason I won't go into Bush versus Obama, as they are all 4 the actual problem's scurvy afterbirth.

We have become an activist nation due to our government not holding itself to the basic principles of our founding documents. If we were established as a democracy, this would be acceptable but the truth remains we are not. Abortion, homosexuality, premarital sex, advertising and saving the world from themselves are not their responsibility but we have allowed them to take the reigns and lead us by the nose.

Maybe the current movement is the result of an insurmountable case of voter's remorse comparable to a vicious weekend entombed in any local dive bar. Waking up Sunday morning with your skull sensitive to the touch, knowing that you spent too much, drank too much and made allies with some of the most detestable scourge you will ever meet on this side of the free world. It felt right at the time but now the guilt of being associated with such swine creates the need for an alibi or even an alternate reality that will help cover up the fact that while intoxicated (on life or vino) it was oh so easy to trust this person. Unfortunately, the painful truth is in the mirror. To illustrate, a friend of mine sent me this link from the Daily Show. This is a perfect example of what politics are and can be done with any president presiding since the inception of the television.

We are indeed creatures of habit and we continue to fall for the same "gotcher nose!" stunt election after election. We do not realize that evolution (yes, there is such a thing) happens over time. Our current condition is not due to one man's ego and I long for an acknowledgment of blatant jackassery and irresponsibility. The side effect is I am blessed with the most amazing reality show... an entire civilization propagating the long thought theory that mankind (woman kind for the overly sensitive) has a propensity to destroy itself. It is in our nature. Bill Hicks said it best, "We're a virus with shoes."

If you have read this far you are most likely waiting for me to make some kind of point... quite frankly, so am I. There are so many topics to dissect and yet only so much time a regular, working schmoe can spend thinking about every direction the discussion can carry us.

Being what we are, I fear that we will continue to drive on this flat tire until the rubber flies away, assaulting the unassuming drivers bringing up the rear long enough for them to witness the broken, spark flinging rim leading us to disaster.

Ok, enough bullshit, here is the point. If you want an answer to the current crisis, take a few moments, read the constitution and then the first 20 political headlines you see. Now, step back, have a cup of java, do a shot of your preferred poison... what ever your thing is, and ask yourself a few questions:

1) Is what they are doing conforming to our founding principles?
2) Is what they have done validating the loss of money from regular citizens or loss of life overseas?
3) What can we do to return to the states to accountability?
4) Can we live in a country where our neighboring state has legalized gambling, while the next allows same sex marriage and next allows abortion, et cetera, ad nauseam?

This should be a start. The Tea Party has not asked these questions, they are perpetuating an existing policy that is already alive and well. A true movement would excel in finding candidates that remind you of George McGovern (if you can remember that far back) or someone who is incapable of not telling the truth as well as a penchant for bringing people together on ideas that can be born of compromise and, most of all, honest common sense.

These people no longer exist. This dream party can not exist if we are to keep the viewer ratings from plummeting. If anyone knows of such a party as previously described, let me know... I am in and I will donate this crappy website to the cause.
